Hotel Galery69

There are hotels you visit, and then there are hotels that feel like stepping inside someone else’s beautifully imagined world. Hotel Galery69, tucked beside Lake Wulpińskie in Poland’s Warmia-Masuria region, is very much the latter.
Just outside Olsztyn, this intimate, adults-only retreat has only 21 rooms — and every one feels deliberately, individually considered.
The first thing that strikes you is the setting. The lake is not simply a pretty backdrop here; it is woven into the entire experience. Rooms open towards the water, while the restaurant looks across the lake towards spectacular sunsets.
In summer, guests can take kayaks and rowing boats from the pier, lounge on the wooden jetty or simply settle into the rhythm of the water. Come winter, the mood shifts completely: the frozen lake becomes part of the adventure, with ice skating and cold-water swimming among the wonderfully eccentric possibilities.
Then there is the design. Galery69 is effectively a living gallery, filled with handmade furniture, lighting, paintings and sculptures created by the owners’ own Manufaktura69 workshop. Nothing feels mass-produced or overly polished; instead, there is an appealing sense of personality throughout. Each room is different, with natural materials, generous windows and, in the lake-facing rooms, views that make the landscape feel almost within arm’s reach.
For those days when leaving the hotel seems unnecessary, the wellness facilities provide plenty of reason to stay put. There is a mosaic indoor pool, Finnish sauna, steam room and jacuzzi, alongside a menu of massages and spa rituals.
The pool and sauna are complimentary at designated morning and evening times, while private sessions can also be booked — a particularly lovely touch for couples looking for a little uninterrupted peace.
Food is another part of the appeal. The restaurant is positioned to make the most of those lake views, with breakfast included in every stay and an emphasis on enjoying the surroundings as much as the meal itself.
Ultimately, Galery69 feels less like a conventional lakeside hotel and more like a creative hideaway: somewhere to swim, sauna, eat, wander, admire beautiful things and remember that doing absolutely nothing can be a very worthwhile way to spend a few days. For travellers who like their escapes with character, calm and a little artistic magic, this is one to put firmly on the list.
